The human silhouette is a recurring motif in Charfi’s work from around 2007 onward. Like the Abrouc, it is a humanoid form created in response to the world around her. She developed it to evoke a shared humanity beyond identity, in keeping with the political project of unity that underpins her work. In a poem titled Human Laces, written in 2007, she describes these faceless, raceless silhouette as a “kind of new universal skin.” In this work, the silhouette is rendered in a piece of white tulle, evoking the white veil of the Laboratoire de paix project and, by extension, the artist herself covered by the veil as she performed her calls for peace.
