La mer blanche du milieu
Asma Ben Aissa & Mouna Saboni
Saint-Michel Chapel, Avignon
On the occasion of the 60th edition of the Avignon Off Festival, "La mer blanche du milieu" brings together artists Asma Ben Aissa and Mouna Saboni in a sensitive exploration of the Mediterranean as a geographical, historical, and imaginary space—one that both connects and divides. Through textile and photography, the two artists investigate the memory of Mediterranean territories and their histories of circulation, transmission, and cultural hybridity. Their works reflect on the traces left by human exchanges, inherited cultures, and shared imaginaries that have shaped the shores of this sea of countless stories over centuries. Oscillating between intimate memory and collective history, The White Sea in Between invites viewers to reconsider the Mediterranean as a living space of encounters, movements, and continuous reinvention.
